Julien Green

Julien Green (the French name of Julian Hartridge Green; Paris 1900 – Paris 1998) was a U.S. writer and playwright who spent a large part of his life in France. Appointed as as a member of the Académie Française on the 3rd of June 1971, he left an oeuvre pervaded by the themes of religion, of Good and Evil, and of sexuality. Green was buried on the 21st of August 1998 in Klagenfurt (Austria) in the church of Sant’Egidio. His first appearence at Amici della Scala dates back to 1986, on the occasion of a private meeting regarding Leviathan (during which the picture was taken) with Mario Spagnol (Longanesi). Two other occasions followed: in 1990, for Le stelle del sud (“The Stars of the South”) and in 1994, when a celebration was held in his honour on the occasion of his publication of Moira, Corbaccio publishers.
