Nicola Benois

Son of the great Alexander, and he himself one of the major scenographers of the last century, Nicola Benois was an extraordinary personality. Director of scenography for many years, a magician of the depicted scene and the creator of greatly admired set designs, Benois was amongst the protagonists of the rescuing of La Scala after the 1943 bombing. Here we read one of his messages to the “very dear, very nice, very kind Anna”, a signed card with a sketch by the scenographer on the back. We also see a 1988 letter from his wife Disma, mourning his loss. Here we have some installation shots of the exhibition that was dedicated to him, and that was accompanied by a publication.
