Philip Gossett

Amongst the great musicologists who introduced the operas of La Scala to our audience, Philip Gossett certainly occupies an important place. His appearances are many, and his contributions unique (including his role as a member of the jury for the open call for Research in Musicological Disciplines). Here, however, we celebrate him by looking back at his presentation of Rossini’s Viaggio a Reims (“The Journey to Reims”), an opera that Gossett himself brought back to the spotlight in all its splendour. Here is a fragment from his speech, that once again demonstrates Gossett’s extraordinary talent as a music populariser.
