Wolfgang Sawallisch

Amongst many others, Wolfang Sawallisch also left a profound and unforgettable mark in La Scala’s history during the second half of the 20th century. Amici della Scala always had great joy in welcoming him as a guest: not only on the occasion of the initiatives held in our headquarters, but also as a lecturer for the conferences organised for the operas. This willingness of musicians, singers and conductors to participate in such events has always been a privilege for the Association. In this audio fragment we can hear Sawallisch’s introductory speech to Mozart’s Il Serraglio, which was presented during a dialogue with Sergio Sablich. The great Maestro underlines how “miraculous” the composition of the opera is considering the young age of Mozart, at the time only twenty-five years old.
