Italo Gomez
For our country and for the city of Milan, Italo Gomez was an extraordinary artistic director and Festival creator. His collaboration with the La Scala Opera House has been of fundamental importance. His most important creation is probably the Autunno Musicale di Como, born in a period in which the concept of “festival” was not much widespread in Italy. In many of his initiatives, Italo Gomez had Gisella Belgeri at his side: the picture shows the two musicians together. Gomez has been a great personal friend of Anna Crespi, as well as a trusted counselor. Gomez is also the creator of the concert-show of Mediterranean music, held on the 25th of May 2001 for an audience of many Italian and foreign personalities. It was held to close the Mecenate Award 2001 prize-giving ceremony, that was awarded to Dolly Goulandris and Amedeo Lia in St. Mark’s Church of Milan. The event was realised under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic and with the patronage of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Culture, the Lombardy Region and the Council of Milan (Museum and Culture – Museums and Exhibitions department).
