Anna Giust

On the 25th of June 2014 the second award ceremony of the “Prize for Research in Musicological Disciplines” was held. The project, created by Amici della Scala and conceived as part of “Together for culture”, saw the participation of 39 universities, with 146 professors and PhD coordinators, as well as almost all of the young PhD scholars who submitted a thesis on subjects in the field of musicology during the academic years of 2011 and 2012. An international commission of musicologists, comprised of Dinko Fabris, Philip Gossett and Antonio Rostagno, awarded the prize to Doctor Anna Giust, from the University of Padua. Her work resulted in a publication: Cercando l’opera russa – La formazione di una coscienza nazionale nel teatro musicale del Settecento. (“Towards Russian Opera: Growing National Consciousness in 18th Century Operatic Repertoire”). The prize involved the publication of the winner’s doctoral thesis both in an e-book format, thanks to the important contribution of Giangiacomo Feltrinelli, and in a printed format, produced by Amici della Scala. The award-ceremony was concluded by baritone Konstantin Shushakov who, accompanied by Maestro James Vaughan on the piano, sang arias by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
