Gianfranco Ravasi

On the 29th of March 1994, on the occasion of the premiere of Franz Joseph Haydn’s The Creation at La Scala Opera House (conducted by Riccardo Muti), musicologist Paolo Gallarati, biblical scholar Monsignor Gianfranco Ravasi (prefect of the Biblioteca Ambrosiana, and then Cardinal), and epistemologist Giulio Giorello presented the masterpiece. Monsignor Ravasi’s audio extract highlights his approach to the opera and its secular dimension, an approach founded on an immense education and critical capacity. In 1996, Monsignor Ravasi (in the images we can see two very affectionate letters in which he expresses his thanks) also participated in the presentation of Gina Lagorio’s book Il bastardo, ovvero gli amori, i travagli e le lacrime di Don Emanuel di Savoia (“The bastard, or the Loves, Labors, and Tears of Don Emanuel of Savoy”), published by RCS Libri & Grandi Opere.
