Guido Cantelli

On the 15th of December 2016, Amici della Scala commemorated, in their offices, the 60th anniversary since the loss of a great figure of the 20th century, Guido Cantelli. The evening commenced with the screening of a documentary (of which we can see some clips here), by director Alessandro Turci, on the legendary orchestra director from Novara, who passed away at the young age of 36 in 1956 in a plane crash. A speech by Maestro Riccardo Chailly followed, whose eulogy was also deepened by direct testimonies gathered by Cantelli’s father, praising the extraordinary technical gifts and the trenchant personality of Arturo Toscanini’s heir apparent. Paolo Gavazzeni and Giuseppe Bodanza also spoke, recounting their memories of Cantelli.
