Herbert von Karajan

It was not possible to have him in our offices. He could not take part in the events organised by Amici della Scala. Yet one of his pictures, and a signature from him (in the letter, his “memory” of Nicola Benois), are enough to signify the presence of one of the most celebrated orchestra conductors of the 20th century: Herbert von Karajan, whose return to La Scala was for decades waited in vain.
