Mario Luzi
On the 26th of October 2000, the third evening of the lecture series “The philosopher and the poet”, curated by Flavio Ermini and Ida Travi, was held with guests Emanuele Severino and Mario Luzi (1914-2005), who represent two of the greatest personalities of Italian culture. As part of the varied programme, Mario Luzi also read some of his new unpublished verses. The event was followed by a dinner in honour of our guests, amongst whom were also poets and journalists. Luzi left a dedication, in which we can read: “amongst the Amici della Scala friends, thought flies”. Here we wish to couple this thought with the dedication left by Giovanna Bemporad (1928-2013), well-known translator, who draws a comparison with Homer’s poetry: “similar to those of which Homer speaks of are the poetry evenings of Amici della Scala”.
