Roberto De Simone
Amici della Scala hosted the great author and director on the 18th of December 1989. The occasion was a proposal for a new set design for Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s Lo frate ‘nnamorato (“The brother in love”), which opened the new operatic season, as well as for a conference on Pergolesi. The opera, directed by Roberto De Simone, was conducted by Riccardo Muti. In this original audio is De Simone’s historical analysis of the nature and origins of the Neapolitan language, which in the XVIII century was recognised as having the same dignity of the Tuscan one. In the photographs De Simone is pictured alone as well as, on a different occasion, in the company of well known friends and colleagues (Giovanni Carli Ballola, Cesare Mazzonis, Marcel Detienne, Pier Angelo Carozzi).
