The Filarmonica della Scala

As we can read on the Orchestra’s website, “Filarmonica della Scala was first set up by Claudio Abbado and the musicians of La Scala Opera House in 1982 with the objective of developing a symphonic repertoire in order to add a further dimension to La Scala’s great operatic tradition. The following year Filarmonica formed a separate Association”. The Amici della Scala Association has always been close to the Filarmonica, also following the expressed wish of Maestro and Friend Claudio Abbado. The Association dedicated very particular attention to the challenges, both cultural and financial, of the orchestra. Along with our friends, the orchestra professors, the Association has also undertaken great efforts in projecting, in Italy and abroad, a venture that was at the time considered difficult, but that soon became one of the greatest international symphonic entities. In particular, Amici della Scala contributed to the finding of an indispensable supporter for the beginning of the activities: IBM. In 1987, Amici della Scala also dedicated to the Orchestra a volume entitled L’orchestra del Teatro alla Scala 1921-1987 (“The La Scala Orchestra 1921-1987”), the first recounting of its history.
