Universities and Music
Amongst the assignments that the Association has undertaken since 1982, that are in line with the goals expressed in our Statute, a strong link between cultural institutions and the Opera House can be seen. It started as an ambitious and innovative project: at the time, the discipline of opera was studied exclusively in conservatories and within the humanities, never within scientific or economic fields. Amici della Scala started to work with the Milanese universities – University of Milan, Bocconi, Politecnico and Università Cattolica – later joined by Conservatory Giuseppe Verdi as well as other Italian research and training centres. From these collaborations came scholarships and, most of all, dissertations as well as a series of publications that gave life to the series “I Quaderni di Musica e Teatro”. Professor Aldo De Maddalena from Bocconi University (in the picture with Anna Crespi and Piero Ostellino) was amongst the first supporters of the project. Shown here is his 1987 signed congratulatory letter.
