AMICI DELLA SCALA

Founded in 1978 and based in the heart of Milan, the Amici della Scala association has the objective of working with and providing external support to the Fondazione Teatro alla Scala.

In its over forty years of history, the Amici della Scala have organised exhibitions, conferences and concerts. They have published hundreds of works – editorial, musical and otherwise. They have supported museums, universities and research centres in restoration and preservation projects, beginning with the Teatro alla Scala’s sketch and costume plate archive. In 1998 they were awarded the Premio della Cultura by the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and in 2018 they celebrated their fortieth anniversary of activities with Anna Crespi as their president.

The Amici della Scala’s commitment continues today with the tradition of their Prima delle Prime gatherings: a series of conference-performances dedicated to all of the season’s operas and ballets staged at the Teatro alla Scala. Year after year, the association publishes monographs dedicated to artists who have worked for La Scala, as well as books about directors and set designers whose activities range from theatre to painting to film.

Their search engine will allow visitors to discover the association’s rich historical archive.

The various sections of this site revisit their history through images, letters, documents, photographs, videos, audio recordings and brief texts.
